WPS Draft 2012

It may have not been broadcast on ESPN and the picks may  have not made speeches to a room full of press flashbulbs, but with a Breakers fan, an Independence fan, and a Sky Blue fan on our writing crew we were paying a bit of attention to the results of the 2012 WPS Draft on Friday.

UCLA forward Sydney Leroux was the overall top draft pick going to the Atlanta Beat while current NCAA champion Stanford University was dominant in the first round, with defender Camille Levin going to Sky Blue FC and the Western New York Flash picking up forward Lindsay Taylor and midfielder Teresa Noyola.

The draft procedures had been adjusted a bit to account for the retraction of Florida’s MagicJack team. Players from that team also need to be assigned to the remaining five teams in the league for when play begins in April. We look forward to a quick resolution to those legal battles to ensure a great, successful kickoff to the 2012 Women’s Professional Soccer season.

The complete list of draft picks can be found at the Women’s Professional Soccer website.
